The main thing is that your portrait needs to be flattering and memorable. In this post, I’m showing that you have options besides the typical standing looking down with your hands on your belly type of portrait.

You also don’t have to be super serious. After all, this is a joyous time in your life. Let’s celebrate it and show some real emotion!

The Truth About Maternity Portraits

I have learned so many things from the wonderful 8th month women that I have photographed. For one thing, I am glad that I’m a man! I know I couldn’t deal with all the incredible changes that take place in a woman’s body, not to mention the pain of childbirth. I’ve learned that women are strong, and deal with all this discomfort because the really want to be the mother of a sweet new human.

I’ve also learned that most pregnant women don’t feel very attractive. To make them feel better, I’ve nurtured my “Photoshop/Wine Belly” by spending countless hours at my computer, retouching my clients to make them look as great as they really are. I also use very flattering lighting and posing to help them look their best.

Since I can’t serve wine, I play nice music during the session, and keep everything low key, unless dance music and play are called for. Remember, you don’t have to act like a model, or try to pose or smile a certain way. Just relax and leave everything up to me, and enjoy feeling pampered and beautiful for a few hours.

The most important thing I’ve learned is this: Pregnant Women Are So Beautiful!

Maternity portraits should be as individual and unique as you are. So please tell me what you would like, and we’ll work together to create it. But if you don’t really know what you want, then just say “Damon, you’re the artist. I trust you.”
